Class Title: Accelerate Oral Language Skills in (Spanish/English) Through the Use of American Sign Language, Storytelling, Games, Songs, and Dance

 

Target Audience: Early childhood educators, speech and language pathologists working with preschool and early elementary school children A 4-part course available in 90 minute sessions or in an all-day workshop designed to provide participants with a comprehensive perspective and effective instructional strategies identified as best practice for teaching dual language learners in preschool and early elementary grades. Each session incorporates American Sign Language (ASL), music, dance, and lots of classroom activities while learning approximately 30 signs per week based upon a variety of themes. Participants will understand how these instructional strategies can begin to form the "bridge" from one language to another. We will explore cross-linguistic transfer from Spanish to English. We will explore how activities can be adapted for an RTI model or multi-tier approach used to efficiently differentiate instruction for all students.
